What collision repair covers

After a crash, collision repair means putting your vehicle back the way it was before the accident: safe, straight and the right colour. At Fix Auto Sherwood North, the shop we recommend, that work is done in house, from a small fender bender to major damage.

Here's what the shop's own team handles:

How a repair usually goes

  1. Free written estimate. The shop looks at the visible damage and writes it up. You don't need a claim number for this step.
  2. Your claim. Call your insurer and tell them which shop you chose. In Alberta, you choose the shop, not the insurer.
  3. Teardown. Once damaged parts come off, hidden damage often shows up. The shop documents it and sends a supplement to your insurer.
  4. Repair and paint. Structure first, then panels, then paint and colour matching.
  5. Scans and calibration. The vehicle is scanned after the repair. If cameras or sensors need calibration, the shop books it with a trusted partner before you pick up.
  6. Pick up. You pay your deductible and the shop bills the rest to your insurer.

Timelines depend on parts and insurer approval. Our guide on how long collision repair takes explains what usually slows a job down.

Insurance and direct billing

Fix Auto Sherwood North works with all major Alberta insurers and bills them directly, so on most claims you only pay your deductible. The shop also helps with the claim itself and can coordinate a rental vehicle while yours is being fixed. Check what your policy covers first in our guide to rental cars during collision repair.

One shop, even for the work it doesn't do

Some jobs need more than body work. Windshields, ADAS calibration, wheel alignment and collision related mechanical repairs are handled through trusted partners. The shop coordinates them, so you still make one call and pick up one finished vehicle.

Newer and electric vehicles

Late model vehicles are full of sensors, and electric vehicles add high voltage systems to the mix. That's why scans before and after the repair matter. Ask how your make and model is handled when you get the estimate.

The warranty

Repairs are backed by Fix Auto's nationwide limited lifetime warranty, and the shop is AMVIC licensed. Ask for the warranty terms in writing. Our collision repair warranty guide explains what to look for.
